Dr Mireia Gascón is a biologist by training who has later specialised in toxicology and environmental health.
Her current focus is on improving scientific understanding of the health impacts of the built environment – mainly urban green and blue spaces – and transport planning.
Mireia is coordinating the Community Interventions research theme for BlueHealth.
She recently coordinated a health impact assessment of urban and transport planning in low and middle-income countries, including Bolivia and Mozambique.
During her PhD Mireia focused on estimating the impact of pre- and postnatal exposures to chemicals on child health. As a key component of this work she coordinated the follow-up of a birth cohort in Ribera d’Ebre, Spain, among children aged 12-13 years, and participated in several other large epidemiological projects.
