Dr Mathew White is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter and the lead academic for BlueHealth’s Understanding the evidence research area.
Mathew is a social and environmental psychologist with a proven track record in the following research fields:
a) Natural environments, health and well-being;
b) Decision making and subjective wellbeing;
c) Risk perception and communication. Since 2011 he has co-ordinated the ‘Blue Gym’ project exploring the potential health and well-being benefits of aquatic environments.
Mathew has 50+ peer reviewed papers including articles in psychology journals such as: Perspectives in Psychological Science; American Psychologist; and Psychological Science; as well as key journals in Environmental Sciences e.g. Environmental Science & Technology and Environment International.
He is secretary for the Society for Risk Analysis (Europe), and on the scientific advisory groups for Public Health England’s ‘Healthy People, Healthy Places’ and Natural England’s ‘Outdoors for All’ programmes.
