Dr Giovanni Coppini is an Oceanographer at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) in the operational oceanography division.
He responsible for issues including oil spill forecasting and environmental monitoring. He also manages the Operational Oceanography Laboratory at CMCC.
His research specialism is oil spill emergency management at sea and the development of environmental and climate change indicators in the ocean. His work is based chiefly on observation of the environmental quality of the oceans, and on oceanic and climate modelling.
Giovanni is a member of the JCOMM Expert Team on Maritime Safety Services (ETMSS) and he serves as the CMCC representative in the European Global Ocean Observing System (EuroGOOS).
