BlueHealth makes international news

BlueHealth has made waves around the world this year, sharing research that demonstrates how blue spaces might impact urban health and wellbeing.

In the last three months we’ve made the news in more than 24 countries including the UK, Netherlands, Brazil, Georgia, Nigeria, India, Canada, and the USA. We’ve featured in over 220 media outlets, five radio shows, three podcasts, and one international webinar.

The Guardian, UK to Taiwan

In November, The Guardian published a story featuring BlueHealth researchers Lewis Elliott and Mat White called “Blue spaces: why time spent near water is the secret of happiness”. The story was shared 21,000 times and commented on by over 900 readers. The story also inspired articles in Taiwan and the Philippines.

Living on Earth Podcast, USA

The Living on Earth podcast is based in Boston, sharing news and research into ecological issues to over 240 American radio stations a week. In October they interviewed Dr Jo Garrett about her recent BlueHealth research into how coastal living boosts mental health.

Costing the Earth, BBC Radio 4, UK

Dr Mat White recently featured in this BBC Radio 4 programme, to discuss the economic value of blue space. He explains how research is informing planners and authorities about the health and wellbeing risks of building over blue and green space, especially for poorer communities. Centre for Science and Wellbeing Webinar, India

BlueHealth’s James Grellier virtually joined practitioners in India, to present BlueHealth research and demonstrate how assessment tools can inform decisions made by planners and architects in Europe.

Juan Hernandez, a surf writer in California, wrote an article about the wellness benefits of coastal living following the release of recent BlueHealth research findings. Inertia Magazine reaches more than 1.5 million readers every month and aims to make sustainable impacts on the world via partnerships with leading charitable organizations.
